Ten Must Visit ISKCON Temples In India

 



1.   ISKCON Temple : Mayapur, West Bengal


Mayapur was previously known as Miyapur is considered a spiritual place by Hindus ( Vaishnavas). It is said to be the birthplace of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and the head quarter of ISKCON is situated here. Sri Mayapura Chandrodaya Temple is one of the biggest ISKCON temple in india. This is the main headquarter of ISKCON. The foundation stone was laid in the year 1972 and construction is in full swing to make it the world’s largest temple.

Main attraction is the Temple of Vedic Planetarium. Thousands of tourists visit Mayapur during the grand celebrations.  God is adorned with new clothes and decorated and there are a host of cultural events that occur.

2.   ISKCON Temple : Bangalore, Karnataka


Sri Radha Krishna Chandra Temple is one of the largest ISKCON temple in the world .  There is a gold plated Dhwaja Stambh ( flag post) 17 mtrs( 56 feet) high and a gold plated Kalash  Shikhar  8.5 mtrs (28 feet) high. This is visited by tourists all through the year who get free Shri Krishna Prasadam during the darshan hours.

The temple provides free food to those in need though their initiative Akshaya Patra Foundation in the form of school lunch programme.

Every year usually in August the festival of Janmashtami is celebrated. The temple gets a fresh coat of paint and is decorated with lights. The bhog or God’s elaborate spread is prepared and also shared with the devotees.

3.   ISKCON Temple : Vrindavan, Mathura, UP


Known as the Sri Krishna Balaram Temple in Vrindavan, this is the first ISKCON temple in India. This was built in the year 1975.

It is an architectural wonder of peacock ( winding) stairways, intricately carved walls & dooms.The music of kartals, mridangam and sweet harmonium of 24 hours of Kirtaniyas  enters the heart of everyone, young and old, who spontaneously raise their arms and dance in ecstacy.

Every year during Janmashtami the followers from all over Vrindavan assemble here. Based on Hindu mythology this was the place where Lord Krishna grew up. Janmashtami gets a whole new meaning here. It is a grand celebration that attracts devotees from all over the world.

4.   ISKCON Temple : Delhi


Sri Sri Radha Parthasarathi Mandir, is a Hindu temple of the Vaishnava sect dedicated to the worship of the deities of Krishna and Radharani. It is one of the largest temple complexes in the entire country. ISKCON Delhi temple is at the heart of the capital. It houses the Glory of Indian Vedic Centre which holds the ‘Astounding Bhagwad Gita’   which is the largest printed book of the major text of any world religion. It weighs 800kgs and measures 2.8 mtrs.

Around 7-8 lacs of people assemble here to participate in Janmashtami.

5.   ISKCON Temple : Mumbai, Maharashtra

The Sri Sri Radha Rasabihari temple in Mumbai is one of the top 20 ISKCON temples in India and is listed in one of the major attractions of Mumbai. Once inside you will be automatically attracted towards the cool climate , the silence will make you still on the place for a few moments. Hare Rama Hare Krishna is what is chanted and is what ISKCON around the world is known for. Janmashtami is celebrated with much grandeur. From lights to floral decorations and also depicting Krishna stories this temple attracts a lot of followers from all over.

6.   ISKCON Temple : Pune, Maharashtra

The Radha Vrindavanchandra Temple in Pune wonderfully celebrates Janmashtami in August. The preparations start at the beginning of August as the temple is cleaned and then the Lord is adorned with accessories.

7.   ISKCON Temple : Ahmedabad, Gujarat



Shri Shri Radha Govind Dham or Hare Krishna Temple located in Ahmedabad is one of the beautiful creations and one of the top places of pilgrimage in Gujarat.

It is dedicated to Lord Krishna and his beloved Radha . The idols of Radha and Krishna are very attractive and many people come here for worshipping Lord Krishna to fulfill their wishes. It has large temple rooms which can accomodat upto 4000 devotees. 

Temple houses the deities of Radha & Govinda, Ram & Sita Lakshman, Hanuman, Jagannath Baldev. Very well maintained and very neat & clean.

Every year amidst cultural programmes and Aarti, the festival of Janmashtami is celebrated. Also called the Hare Krishna Mandir this attracts a large number of tourists. Janmashtami is celebrated in a grand way with beautiful floral decorations and glittering lights and prayer songs at the backdrop with chants of Hare Krishna.

8.   ISKCON Temple : Jaipur, Rajasthan




At a distance of 14 kms from Jaipur Junction Railway Station is one of the most visited ISKCON temple of Giridhari Dauji Temple in Jaipur.

Dedicated to Lord Krishna and true to the city’s royal charm and grandeur this temple also has a towering majestic presence with a giant Krishna statue. The temple has 52 stained glass windows depicting scenes from the Puranas. The decoration of Radha Krishna with silver and gold jewellery and colourful clothes makes it more attractive.

During Janmashtami the entire temple glitters in light and spectacular floral decorations. Devotees swing to the chant of Hare Krishna as they celebrate the special day.

9.   ISKCON Temple: Pandharpur, Maharashtra



Located in the south eastern part of Maharashtra, the Sri Sri Radha Pandharinath  Mandir is much revered by the pilgrims.  It is a beautiful holy abode of Lord Vithala Sri Krishna Himself. It covers a large area and has six gates.

Every year in Janamashtami, they arrange for prayers and cultural programmes. 


10.  ISKCON Temple : Haridwar


On the banks of the Holy River Ganges is the beautiful city of Haridwar. In Haridwar the famous Sri Sri Gour Radha Krishna Mandir attracts tourists all over the year. It is located 1 km from Har ki Paudi, which is the main Ganga Ghat & 300 mtrs from the Ganga river and has a nice altar where Sri Gopalji and Sri Gaur Nitai are seated.

Janmashtami celebration brings in dignitaries, pilgrims, and travellers from different parts of the country.
